Sustainability
What is environmental sustainability? It is defined as managing human impacts upon, and interactions with, the environment in order to preserve natural resources for present and future generations.
This means we need to consider our impacts on water resources, energy sources, consumption, the waste we generate, and our impacts on biodiversity (animals and plants).
Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD)
Environmentally Sustainable Design is a way of planning our houses and developments to improve the health and comfort of buildings and subdivisions for occupants, while reducing negative impacts on the environment.
If you are planning on building, buying or renovating your home, visit the YourHome website for tools and ideas to make your home sustainable.
To find out more on sustainable developments, visit the Council Alliance for a Sustainable Built Environment (CASBE).
