The Greater Shepparton Art for Empowerment project will have its official exhibition opening on Friday 29 July.
Art for Empowerment is a pilot program being run as a partnership between Council’s Aged and Disability Services Team and the Shepparton Art Museum.
The aim of the program is to introduce clients to the local art community with the foresight that they will continue accessing some of the activities and exhibitions run through SAM and other local art bodies.
Participants have worked on artwork based on their own personal story or experience with ageing, disability, illness or mental health and have been actively involved in planning and organising this exhibition.
Council’s Director Community Kaye Thomson encouraged people to attend the exhibition opening.
“This program is a fantastic opportunity for people to express themselves and share their story through a creative outlet,” Ms Thomson said.
“Guests will also hear from Heidi Everett. Heidi is a mental health system recovery advocate, singer/song writer, illustrator, artist and writer. Heidi is the director of community projects; Schizy Week Jam Big Art Muster, Psych Ward Support and Campfire Conferences.”
The exhibition opening will take place on Friday 29 July from 5pm at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre.
