Greater Shepparton City Council is encouraging local artists to submit designs for the creation of a piece of wall art in the new courtyard area at the revamped Shepparton Library in Marungi Street.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community, Kaye Thomson, said “the design needs to contribute to our sense of cultural identity and be appreciated by people of different ages and cultural backgrounds.”
“We are looking at themes of people and place and the artwork needs to demonstrate artistic excellence and integrity. The area available is a large blank wall in the courtyard which provides a casual meeting and reading space. It is partly protected by shade sails and measures approximately 3 metres high by 17 metres wide.”
“We encourage artists who are interested in submitting a design to visit the site,” said Ms Thomson. “Less experienced artists are also encouraged to apply as it can provide a valuable opportunity to understand public community art design and installation. They will be able to work with an experienced mentor who can oversee and assist with installation.”
The tender for the artwork is being advertised on Friday 30 January and closes at 4pm on 25 February. Details can be found at http://www.greatershepparton.com.au/tenders
For more information artists can contact Kaye Thomson on 5832 9700.
