Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to be involved in International Day of People with Disability. To celebrate the day, an event will be held at Shepparton’s Queens Gardens on Thursday 3 December.
The event will feature guest speakers, including Lincoln Budge who will share his experiences about becoming a paraplegic at age 22, and also include all abilities games, celebrity wheelchair basketball, musical performances and a free bbq cooked by Mooroopna Lions Club. Auslan interpreters will also be available.
Council’s Director Community Kaye Thomson said International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), is a day dedicated to placing greater emphasis on the celebration of abilities and achievements of people living with disability.
“It’s a great opportunity for bringing together individuals, businesses and community organisations to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability,” Ms Thomson said.
“I encourage individuals and organisations to come along and celebrate this important day.”
This event is a partnership between many local organisations including Council, RIAC, Verney Road Special School, Vision Australia, Scope, ConnectGV, Shepparton Access, Valley Sport, Mooroopna Lions Club, Department Human Services (DHS), FamilyCare, Word and Mouth, Worktrainers ASHE, and Aquamoves.
