Greater Shepparton City Council’s CEO Peter Harriott and Rumbalara’s CEO Lee Joachim recently swapped jobs for a day to gain a greater understanding of the unique challenges that each organisation experiences.
Last week’s Chief Executive Officer exchange is the second to occur between Council and the Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative.
“It continues the aim of bringing the organisations closer together and for staff at all levels of each organisation to feel free to compare work practices, learn from each other and exchange ideas,” said Mr Harriott.
“Both organisations have budgets to be managed, information technology challenges, strategic planning roles and surprisingly have some similar services provision.”
“In a broader sense there are cultural awareness benefits in the closer relationship and opportunities for much improved communication,” said Mr Harriott.
“This week’s exchange involved the assistance of a number of staff from Rumbalara and GSCC and I thank those staff from both organisations for all of their assistance to allow Lee and myself to do the exchange.”
Mr Joachim said it was a privilege to be a part of the ongoing arrangement. “The opportunity to see concerted effort in learning aspects of each representative body certainly assists in my personal growth and development of stronger relationships for the executives working for both CEO’s,” said Mr Joachim.
“There are certainly similarities, differences and opportunities for the future within the region from this arrangement.”
“For Peter and I to have greater insight to each other’s workspace leads to a more co-operative approach to making differences from better understanding. My staff see greater opportunity for the capacity of Greater Shepparton City Council to employ more Aboriginal people within Council,” he said.
