Council wishes to inform residents of changes to speed zones in Merrigum, Dookie and Tatura.
VicRoads have made changes to speed zones and will be phasing out buffer zones in Merrigum, Tatura and Dookie in the coming weeks
A buffer speed zone is a short length transitional speed zone, like the 80 km/h speed limit between a 100 km/h limit and a 60 km/h limit.
Replacing the 80 km/h buffer speed zones with advisory ’60 km/h Ahead’ signs will let drivers know of the upcoming speed zone, and give them ample time to decelerate to the appropriate speed.
Road users will see the removal of the 80 km/h buffer speed zones, and the 60 km/h speed limit extended to where the 100 km/h speed limit begins in Merrigum, Dookie and Tatura.
The buffer speed zone will also be removed on the Dookie-Nalinga Road in Dookie and replaced with '60 km/h Ahead' signs.
VicRoads has worked in conjunction with the members of the Greater Shepparton Traffic Liaison Committee on the changes, which includes Council representatives and Victoria Police.
These changes will deliver more logical and consistent speed limits for all Victorian road users.
VicRoads urges drivers to be aware of the buffer speed zone changes and always obey the speed limit for the safety of all road users.
The buffer speed zone changes in Merrigum, Tatura and Dookie are expected to be rolled out from Thursday 16 April 2015.
