Greater Shepparton City Council reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and revitalising KidsTown Adventure Playground, a beloved community landmark and major tourist attraction in the Goulburn Valley, at its August Council Meeting.
As part of this commitment, Council is inviting the community to participate in two dedicated Community Information Sessions at KidsTown. These drop-in sessions are an important part of our broader engagement process. They provide an opportunity to discuss the initial phase of essential site works and to hear your views on how these changes may impact you and the wider community.
The drop-in session dates are as follows:
Held on-site at KidsTown, these sessions will give residents the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and learn more about the revitalisation journey. Community input gathered during these sessions will directly inform planning, development, and construction works.
KidsTown, established in 1995 and operated by Council since 2005, has long been a hub for imaginative and inclusive play. From hosting birthday parties and weddings to events like the Mad Cow Mud Run and KidsFest, it remains deeply woven into Shepparton’s social fabric.
Following infrastructure damage from the October 2022 floods, Council endorsed a comprehensive review of the site and approved a $650,000 budget allocation in the 2025/26 financial year for essential rehabilitation works. These works will be undertaken in collaboration with key stakeholders.
The site, located atop a decommissioned municipal landfill, is subject to ongoing environmental monitoring to ensure public safety. Connectivity enhancements, including the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path and the upcoming Route 2 extension from Gemmill’s Swamp, will further position KidsTown as a regional destination and rest stop.
“KidsTown is more than a playground, it’s a much-loved community asset,” Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said.
Community consultation will run until Friday 31 October 2025. Residents are encouraged to visit the KidsTown Revitalisation Project Page to submit questions, upvote topics of interest, and stay informed throughout the process.
