The Our Sporting Future, Community Arts Grants, Small and Large Event Grants, Community Matching Grants, Greater Health Grants and Community Sustainability Grants programs are all currently open for application until 3 February 2017.

The Community Arts Grants of up to $2,500 will support the development and implementation of community arts activities and projects as part of Council’s commitment to participation in the arts.

The Community Matching Grants offers grants up to $2,500 to support one-off projects which build or strengthen Greater Shepparton communities and benefit the community.

The Small and Major Events Grants offer funding for both small events ($500 - $2,000) and major events ($2,000 - $5,000). These grants are for projects that aim to increase visitation and event tourism to the Greater Shepparton area and to maximise the economic benefits to our community from scheduled festivals, cultural events, business events, major events and sporting activities.

The Our Sporting Future Program assists community sporting organisations with the implementation of small to medium sized facility development projects and development programs for new and emerging sporting organisations across the municipality. The Our Sporting Future program offers three components – Minor (up to $15,000 with a $1 to $1 contribution), Major (up to $30,000 with a $1 to $1 contribution) and Sports Aid (up to $5,000).

The Greater Shepparton Greater Health Grant encourages the local community to explore different approaches and initiatives that will improve community health and wellbeing through health promotion or prevention models. Grants are available up to $500 per project.

Council’s Director Sustainable Development Johann Rajaratnam encouraged community groups to apply for a relevant grant.

“This year we have introduced a new sustainability grant, which is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability within the local community,” Mr Rajaratnam said.

“The programs fund a range of projects and activities. As an example, in the most recent round of the Greater Shepparton Greater Health Grant, healthy eating program at Murchison Primary School was funded.

“The Community Sustainability Grant provided funding for Transition Tatura to hold a short film festival ‘Communities Shaping the Future,’ featuring guest speakers, presentations and discussions about sustainability and environmental challenges facing communities.

“The Community Arts Grants program provided funding for Gallery Kaiela Incorporated for Woven Journeys, a short documentary about the re-ignition of traditional Aboriginal weaving styles.”
