Work on the Cosgrove 3 landfill site is progressing well with recent works including the construction of leachate ponds.
These leachate ponds will service the planned Cosgrove 3 landfill site during operation. Leachate ponds collect water that has percolated through the landfill from rainfall and contains contaminates from that landfill. The ponds allow the contaminated water to settle and allow for treatment of the water on-site.
Leachates will not permeate the soil under or around the landfill due to the use of impermeable liners made from geomembranes. Similar lines will also be used in each of the cells being constructed at Cosgrove.
These ponds form first part of the Cosgrove 3 Cell 1 A and B construction works and completion of these works is expected in late December.
On completion of the leachate pond construction works, cell construction works will commence, most likely in January 2019.
The construction works undergo stringent site supervision and auditing processes in accordance with EPA requirements, taking significant amount of time in construction and reporting.
