Greater Shepparton City Council has announced the appointment of Mr Peter Harriott as the new Chief Executive Officer. The appointment of Mr Harriott was endorsed at the Ordinary Meeting of Council last night.
Mr Harriott is currently the CEO of the Wattle Range Council in South Australia and was a Director of Infrastructure and Development at Greater Shepparton City Council for 12 years from 2000 to 2012.
Prior to his time at GSCC Mr Harriott worked at Gannawarra Shire Council and has many year’s experience around Victoria in local government commencing as a graduate engineer in Warrnambool in 1985.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Dennis Patterson congratulated Mr Harriott on the appointment which he said would ensure Greater Shepparton continued to grow and prosper.
“Selecting a CEO is an important task under the Local Government Act and we wanted a leader with a strong community focus who is passionate about Greater Shepparton,” he said.
“Mr Harriott is a highly respected member of the community, he is well known in this area with strong ties and commitment to our region,” said Cr Patterson. “He has excellent corporate knowledge, great experience in local government and positive credentials. He is also a very approachable person.”
“The current councillors and I look forward to working with Mr Harriott in the future to help shape the direction for our municipality.”
Cr Patterson also thanked Acting CEO Chris Teitzel for his contribution as caretaker CEO since July 2015. Mr Teitzel will return to his role as Director Business once the new CEO starts.
Mr Harriott said he was looking forward to the challenge and to returning to the Goulburn Valley where he has strong ties. He will commence with Greater Shepparton City Council on 4 January 2016.
Mr Harriott has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from La Trobe University; an MBA from Deakin, Municipal Engineers Certificate, Water Engineers Certificate and a Graduate Certificate in Water Engineering. He has certification as a building surveyor and from the Institute of Arbitration and Mediation. Mr Harriot will be joined by his wife Cathy in Shepparton. He has an adult son, Lloyd in Shepparton and an adult daughter, Lana in QLD. His interests include surfing, sailing, triathlons, art and music.
