Greater Shepparton City Council alongside, the Tatura community and Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation (GV Libraries) have been making preparations to redevelop the Tatura Library. This has been identified as a priority action in the Tatura Community Plan. Council successfully obtained a grant of $600,000 as part of the “Living Libraries Infrastructure Program”.
Public Libraries play an important role in strengthening our communities and enable more public services to be delivered to local residents.
Council has recently awarded the design and architectural works to James Seymour Architecture as part of stage one of the project.
Council is currently working in consultation with the GV Libraries Corporation on the initial design and community consultation will follow including with neighbouring organisations.
The Tatura library offers a hub of activities for the whole community to enjoy and it was identified the current library space 225m2 would not meet future requirements. Future sizing has been assessed using industry guidelines and as a result the floor area of the library will be almost doubled to match the recommended size to serve the Tatura and district population moving forward.
Council is anticipating the design for the building to be completed in May and the construction tender to be advertised in June.
The redevelopment will include extending, refurbishing and upgrading the Tatura Library to provide a new, contemporary library for the Tatura community.
