Greater Shepparton Councillors are nearing the end of their intensive transition program, which has seen the new and returning councillors undertake a number of training sessions.
Sessions have included meeting procedures and local government legislation, planning, directorate presentations, budgeting and finance and tours of council facilities and locations across the municipality.
Earlier this week, Councillors undertook a tour visiting Council’s childcare centres, the Shepparton Showgrounds, Transfer Station and Animal Shelter, Sports Precinct, Gemmill Swamp, Undera Youth SPOT, Tatura Park and Cussen Park in Tatura.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Dinny Adem said the tour was an opportunity for Councillors to discover the diverse range of services and facilities provided by Council across the municipality.
“It was good to get our feet on the ground as a group and explore some of the grassroots elements of our municipality,” Cr Adem said.
Newly-elected Greater Shepparton Councillor Kim O’Keefe said the transition program has been extremely informative and helpful.
“I have been really impressed by the support that is offered from both council staff and fellow councillors. This has made me feel so much more comfortable and confident as I settle in,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“What stood out to me is the experience and knowledge from across the organisation. The presentations we received from were really professional and informative.”
“Finally, I would like to thank everyone at council for making both myself and all councillors feel so welcome. There is still a lot to learn, but I know we will have a lot of support and guidance as we settle into our roles.”
