Greater Shepparton’s Heritage Open Days are just around the corner. And some of the more popular tours from the event continue to book out. You haven’t missed your chance, however, with more than 30 tours available that do not require bookings.
With just one week left before the event, now is your final chance to call Council to check availability on the remaining tours or find out more information.
The Heritage Open Days are set to be held on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March, with free visits to more than 50 iconic places across Greater Shepparton, many of which are opening to the public for the first time.
The weather forecast is looking ideal for the walking tours in Shepparton, Mooroopna and Tatura. These short but informative trips will see attendees spend with enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guides require booking that love to share fascinating stories about our region’s past.
Not to be missed is the Australia Hotel Tour. You may know this beautiful building on the corner of Maude Street and Fryers Street, but the tour being held at 10:30am on Saturday, 23 March includes an exclusive visit to the former family area and the cellar. Bookings for this tour must be made through Council on 03 5832 9730.
The brick water tower at the Goulburn Valley Water site on Welsford Street is also open on Friday, 22 March from 10am to 2pm. This iconic tower tells a story of our past and our growth as a regional city. The tower is a cool spot to visit on a warm day and will include a display that explains the history of providing water services to Shepparton.
For full details of all tours, a booklet is available online on the Council website as well as in hard copy in the Council foyer, local libraries and Visitor Centre. All bus tours, some walks and some visits will require bookings.
The Heritage Advisory Committee and Greater Shepparton City Council would like to extend a gracious thank you to the very generous venue owners and proprietors who are offering access to their properties for this event.
The Dyson Group and Prominent Group has helped to make the event possible by generously sponsoring the buses and booklets respectively.
The two-day showcase celebrates the diverse and unique heritage of the Goulburn Valley with bus trips, walks and tours available to some of our oldest sites.
More information is also available on the Heritage Open Days web page or by calling the Building and Planning Department on 03 5832 9730.
