Council staff have rescued a litter of kittens dumped in a plastic bucket in Ferrari Park in Mooroopna this morning.
Greater Shepparton City Council Acting Director Corporate Services, Laurienne Winbanks said a Community Ranger found five black and white kittens, approximately eight weeks old in a plastic bucket.
“The five kittens were very hungry and dehydrated and were immediately taken to the Council’s Animal Shelter for care and attention,” said Ms Winbanks.
“It is an offence to abandon an animal under the Domestic Animals Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.”
Ms Winbanks urged anyone who has an animal they no longer want, they can no longer care for or if their circumstances have changed, to take the animal to the animal shelter or contact Council for advice.
“The Shepparton Animal Shelter will provide the animal with the care it needs.”
The Shepparton Animal shelter is open 8:15am-4:30pm Monday to Friday and is located at 125 Wanganui Road Shepparton.
If anyone has any information regarding the person responsible for abandoning the five black and white kittens, please call Council on 5832 9700.
Community Rangers will investigate and commence legal action if a person is found to have abandoned an animal.
