Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise it is working with Regional Roads Victoria to improve the safety for pedestrians at a number of locations within Shepparton’s Central Business District (CBD).
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said the proposed works will include improving existing pedestrian locations across the CBD to encourage drivers to reduce speeds and be vigilant of pedestrians.
“The works will raise the walking pavement at existing pedestrian crossings, which further encourages drivers to reduce speeds, making it easier to see pedestrians and provide better visibility. The pavement at these locations will be raised approximately 100mm and the end results will be similar to the pedestrian crossings at the Vaughan Street Shopping Centre,” Mr Hoare said.
There are seven proposed sites with works planned to commence in May 2019 throughout to July 2019. Funding for these improvement works will be part of Regional Roads Victoria’s Safe System Infrastructure Program.
Locations are:
Sites 4 and 5 are provisional pending available funds.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said Council was pleased it was successful in attracting this funding and to be able to provide a safe road environment for everyone in the community.
“It is important to provide a safe road environment for all road users, including pedestrians and this is a great outcome for pedestrians in our CBD,” Mr Hoare said.
“We are committed to working with businesses and contractors to minimize the impacts of the projects and have had successful consultations with businesses in the area. Council will work with contractors to maintain access to all businesses during the works.”
