Greater Shepparton City Council has received $38,000 of funding from VicRoads to improve safety at the intersection of Orrvale Road and Poplar Ave, Shepparton East.
Larger warning signs with solar powered yellow flashing lights have been installed at the intersection which will trigger as vehicles approach the intersection to warn the driver of the upcoming intersection and stop sign. Greater Shepparton City Council was successful in receiving the Australian Government’s Infrastructure Investment Black Spot funding through VicRoads due to the intersection having a serious crash history.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said “The intersection at Orrvale Road and Poplar Ave has a history of serious collisions. I am very pleased to see these additional safety measures are now in place and are timely coming into winter with fog and longer hours of darkness when driving conditions become more challenging. I urge road users to take care whilst travelling on our roads to ensure their safety and those of others.”
VicRoads North Eastern Regional Director Nicki Kyriakou said: “This is a significant project for the Shepparton community that will contribute to the continued development of a safer road network for all Victorians.
The Australian Government’s Black Spot Program aims to reduce the national road toll by treating areas that have a high crash history or have the potential for causing crashes.
