More than 100 delegates from around the state will descend on the Greater Shepparton area next week and experience the region’s top tourist attractions as part of the 2016 Victorian Visitor Information Centre Summit.
Greater Shepparton beat three other regional centres vying for the chance to hold the three-day Summit in partnership with Goulburn River Valley Tourism and the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC).
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Sustainable Development Johann Rajaratnam said through a mix of professional development sessions, case studies and key note speakers, the summit will provide an insight into what makes a visitor centre an important driver of economic development.
“This will also be a fantastic opportunity to promote our regional tourism products and services to visitor centre representatives from across Victoria,” Mr Rajaratnam said. The summit is run in partnership with Council, Victoria Tourism Industry Council Goulburn River Valley Tourism, Visit Victoria, Parks Victoria, Public Transport Victoria and Riverlinks Venues.
Victoria Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Dianne Smith said; “The team at Greater Shepparton have been amazing to work with and will proudly display the myriad attractions of their region to Visitor Information Centre managers from across the state.”
“Visitor Information Centres are a vital part of the tourism supply chain, providing expert and tailored advice. This will be a robust and productive summit focussing on the importance of ensuring that VICs remain sustainable and continue to play an important role in delivering great visitor experiences in Victoria.”
