Greater Shepparton City Council will be hosting the 2016 Victorian Masters Softball Championships over the June Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
The event will see more than 800 players converge on Shepparton and inject more than $1m into the local economy.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Dinny Adem said the event was a major coup for Greater Shepparton.
“This is the third time we will host the event after hosting very successfully in 2010 and 2015,” Cr Adem said.
“11 softball diamonds will be installed at the Mooroopna Sports Precinct following some development to sure up the event this year.”
“It is fantastic for Greater Shepparton to be hosting an event such as this and continues to showcase the municipality as a major events destination providing a fantastic boost for the tourism and retail industries.”
Players will be aged 35 and over and will come from Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and Tasmania to take part in the tournament. Within the teams there are former Victorian and Australian representatives and national and international umpires and coaches.
Softball Victoria President Jenny Holliday, herself a Softball Olympian visited the fields today with SV Executive Officer, Sara Dailey and were thrilled with the facilities. “We are pleased to provide such a great location to our members for this tournament, which is a ‘must do’ for Masters Softballers. Likewise, we are very happy that the tournament gives a boost to local non profit organisations who will be assisting to support the event.”
The 2016 Victorian Softball Masters Championships will be held from Saturday 11 June until Monday 13 June 2015 at the Mooroopna Sports Precinct.
