Four mobility scooter parking bays have been constructed in front of the Community Health @GV Health facility in Corio Street.
The four new mobility scooter bays are designed with high visibility fencing and are clearly marked for parking.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker, says the bays are the first of their kind in Greater Shepparton.
“The new bays were designed in consultation with GV Health staff and Council’s Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) and provide an innovative solution which demonstrates Council’s commitment to provide services to all ratepayers.
“Previously, mobility scooters were being parked alongside the GV Health building, often blocking the footpath for pedestrians. The new parking bays are free to use and ensure that the footpath is kept clear for pedestrians and visitors accessing the building,” Mr Bowmaker said.
Julyan Howard, GV Health Divisional Director, Primary Care, said it is important for patients/clients who use mobility scooters to be able to maintain their independence.
“Having the freedom to attend health appointments autonomously is important for our clients/patients who use mobility scooters. We are proud to provide this first-of-its-kind facility in Greater Shepparton to ensure accessible parking for clients/patients and safety for pedestrians using the sidewalk,” said Mr Howard.
The scooter bays were part of a larger streetscape improvement project, which also included two new accessible parking bays and a new, smooth concrete footpath.
