Ground condition testing works will be conducted at Victoria Park Lake’s Con Palling Reserve from next Thursday for up to 15 days to determine the soil structure of the area.
Subsurface geotechnical investigations are to be undertaken within the area to determine the physical characteristics of the subsoil.
Greater Shepparton City Council Acting Manager Projects Darren Buchanan said “This information will form part of the SAM Architectural Competition stage two Design Brief, enabling competition entrants to develop their design concepts with as much information as possible about the soil types in the lakeside area.”
The site works will comprise bore-hole drilling below the subsurface and soil (SPT) testing. The work will commence on Thursday 15 September and continue for up to 15 days subject to favourable weather conditions. Boreholes will be undertaken consecutively by a mobile drilling rig and take approximately one to two days each.
“To ensure the safety of park users each borehole site will be established and enclosed by temporary site fencing for the duration of the activity. On completion of the works, each of the bore holes will be suitably and safely backfilled,” he said. “The surrounding trees will not be impacted by the works.”
Mr Buchanan said the drilling noise levels are typically equivalent to that of a motor mower and SPT approximated to that of a sledge hammer being used. The activities will not induce any perceptible vibration.
“The works are being carried out by A S James Pty Ltd who are very experienced in this type of site work,” said Mr Buchanan.
“We aim to keep all facilities, including the BBQ and toilets, open for use but there may be some temporary inconvenience in the area. We ask that the community comply with all signage and instructions from the site manager during the works,” said Mr Buchanan.
“The lakeside businesses have been informed of the works and we do apologise for the inconvenience and thank the community for their cooperation.”
