Mactier Park in Tatura received landscaping works today, with company Vic Transplanters transplanting three fig trees identified as an inappropriate species for the area, due to their invasive roots.
Two of the trees will be transferred to the south east side of the senior citizens building and the other to the south of the skate park.
To ensure canopy cover is preserved, pencil pines will be put in their place, keeping consistency with the pines currently planted around the memorial.
The identifying and transplanting of these trees forms part of Council’s Urban Forest Strategy, which provides a framework for existing tree management, technical guidelines and precinct plans.
The Urban Forest Strategy ties together existing priorities for the Greater Shepparton region such as health and wellbeing, liveability, climate change adaptation, biodiversity and economic prosperity.
