The Goulburn Valley Regional Library now has it's own mural to compliment its courtyard area.
A local artist Mimi Leung was the successful tenderer of a project to create an art wall in the courtyard area of the newly refurbished Shepparton Library in Marungi Street.
Greater Shepparton City Council encouraged local artists to submit designs for the creation of a piece of wall art in the new courtyard area.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community, Kaye Thomson, said “the design needed to contribute to our sense of cultural identity and be appreciated by people of different ages and cultural backgrounds.”
“We asked for themes of people and place and Mimi’s design concept met the criteria and also showed artistic excellence and integrity. The depiction of people and places is very clever and colourful. People will find plenty to explore when viewing the art,” said Ms Thomson.
“The area she has painted was a large blank wall in the courtyard which provides a casual meeting and reading space. It is partly protected by shade sails and measures approximately three metres high by 17 metres wide which is an ambitious project,” said Ms Thomson.
Ms Leung has now completed the artwork and people are encouraged to drop into the library to see her work. Please contact the Shepparton Library on 1300 374 765 for opening hours or click here for more: greatershepparton.com.au/library
