Greater Shepparton City Council will shortly commence the preparation of a heritage study: Greater Shepparton Heritage Study Stage IIC: Rural.
The study will identify and assess places of cultural heritage significance in rural areas of the municipality.
Previous heritage studies, the City of Greater Shepparton Heritage Study Stage II and the Greater Shepparton Heritage Study Stage IIB concentrated on places of cultural heritage significance in urban areas, within Shepparton and Tatura, of the municipality.
Greater Shepparton’s Director Sustainable Development Johann Rajaratnam said the purpose of the study is to recommend a list of new places to be included in the Heritage Overlay of the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme.
“Places may include structures from the municipality’s early agricultural, industrial and irrigation pursuits. Examples include: log buildings, outbuildings such as stables, dairies, shearing sheds, houses, irrigation structures, kilns and cemeteries. The inclusion of these places in the Heritage Overlay would be the subject of a future planning scheme amendment,” Mr Rajaratnam said.
“We are inviting members of the public to nominate places that may be of significance for inclusion in this Study”.
Council will accept nominations up to Friday 29 May 2015.
