Greater Shepparton residents and visitors can exercise for free on the new outdoor fitness equipment that has been installed in Western Park, Victoria Park Lake thanks to the Rotary Club of Shepparton and Greater Shepparton City Council.
The Rotary Club of Shepparton had a vision to enable residents and visitors to utilise outdoor fitness equipment as one way to get healthy and active, providing funding to purchase and install the outdoor fitness equipment.
“We are looking forward to seeing many people utilise the equipment, meet new people and have fun whilst being active,” said Angie Talarico from the Rotary Club of Shepparton.
Five pieces of fitness equipment have been installed including instructional signage along the waterfront of Western Park. The fitness equipment includes seated push and pull, sit up bench, leg press and swing board, rowing machine and a sky runner/elliptical trainer. The exercise equipment chosen enables a full body workout and is suitable for all fitness levels.
“It is ideal for people who may feel a little intimidated at a gym or looking to start exercising using equipment without the cost at any time of the day. The whole family can get involved” said Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe.
Western Park was the chosen site for the outdoor fitness equipment due to its accessible location along picturesque Victoria Park Lake. Western Park also includes chin-up bars and signage to assist people to perform a number of exercises utilising existing structures in the park. Combined with the newly installed outdoor fitness equipment, a walk, run or ride around Victoria Park Lake, Western Park is the ideal place to ‘Get Mooving’.
“I encourage all community members to give the exercise equipment a try. It is often enjoyable to exercise outdoors in a local park and we know that people who regularly exercise feel healthy and well,” said Cr O’Keeffe.
The outdoor fitness equipment will be officially launched on Friday 8 June 2018. An Aquamoves gym and group fitness instructor will be available at 9.30am and 12.30pm to provide demonstrations on how to safely use the equipment and get the most out of your workout and answer any questions. Free giveaways and musical entertainment on the day. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Date: Friday 8 June 2018
Time: Session 1 9:30am and Session 2 12:30pm (each session will be approx. 1 – 2hrs)
Sessions will be rescheduled if wet weather occurs and posted on Council’s Get Mooving Greater Shepparton Facebook page.
