The Victorian Government is once again recruiting project firefighters to join the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria for the coming fire season.
"Project Firefighters (PFFs) play a vital role in keeping the community and the environment safe from bushfire," Regional Manager, Forest and Fire Operations – Hume, Shaun Lawlor, said.
"As a Project Firefighter you will become part of a team that helps protect communities from bushfires and make Victoria safer.
"You’ll learn new skills, and make a significant contribution to your local community."
DELWP and Parks Victoria’s Project Firefighters play a critical role by helping with preparations leading into summer and by being at the frontline when bushfires occur.
Successful recruits receive comprehensive training, and work with experienced DELWP and Parks Victoria fire personnel as well as other emergency management organisations such as the CFA.
A range of seasonal positions are on offer including roles as firefighters, fire support officers, hover exit crew and rappel crew members.
PFFs are based at more than 80 DELWP and Parks Victoria locations throughout Victoria.
"Working as a project firefighter can lead to a rewarding career," Mr Lawlor said.
"Many past project firefighters have gone on to permanent roles within the department."
DELWP is aiming to recruit an additional 300 men and women as Project Firefighters for the coming fire season.
Employment is full-time, available for 18, 26 or 34 weeks of the year, generally starting in November or December.
Applications are open and close on 4 September 2016.
