Works are progressing on new walkways and pens in the cattle pavilion at the Shepparton Regional Saleyards.
Works so far have included the installation of the buyer’s walkways, cattle lanes, sale pens, and soft fill concrete panels. The water and drainage services to the cattle watering system have also been installed.
Construction of the overhead auctioneers walkways is currently underway. The final stage will include installation of the interconnecting public staircases and overhead walkways, interface to existing yard, cattle holding pens and rotary force yard.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker said these works would increase the capacity of the saleyards and allow for a greater number of cattle to be sold through the facility.
“The upgrades to the cattle yards will see the Shepparton saleyards remain a first class facility, drawing sales from as far away as Gippsland, Southern NSW and Western regions of Victoria,” Mr Bowmaker said.
“These works will not only allow for greatly improved facilities and animal welfare but also provide an increase of approximately 7-800 head per sale day which equates to around 25 per cent increase in selling capacity.
“I would like to thank all saleyards users for their patience while the works are happening.”
It is expected the works will be completed by the end of June.
