Squash & Racquetball Victoria, the peak body for squash and racquetball in Victoria, is again partnering with the Greater Shepparton City Council and the Goulburn Valley Squash Club to present the 2016 Shepparton International Squash Championship.
To be held at the Shepparton squash courts in Archer Street from August 18-21, the PSA M5 event features a highly competitive field boasting players from 14 different countries.
The list of contenders for the title are set to be headed by top seed, Arthur Gaskin. The Irishman has a world ranking of 96 and has been competing on the PSA tour for 12 years. The 31-year-old is a four-time Irish national champion with over 100 Ireland caps, and has won two PSA tour titles.
Top seed for the Australian contingent is Rohan Toole, who sits at 243 in the world rankings. An up-and-coming player, Toole was recently selected in the Australian Team for the World University Games to be held in September.
Along with the top grade professional competition, there will be a number of graded events - open to players of all abilities - on the Saturday and Sunday, providing an opportunity for local players to shine.
Greater Shepparton Mayor, Cr Dinny Adem was pleased to welcome all participants, family and support teams to Shepparton.
“It’s fantastic to be hosting another world class event in Greater Shepparton and I hope all visitors enjoy their time here,” Cr Adem said.
“This event continues to strengthen our reputation as the sporting event capital keeping the economy strong and businesses busy.”
The Shepparton International main draw will commence on Friday 19 August with two rounds of play commencing at 10am and 6pm, two rounds on Saturday 20 August at 10am and 5pm, and the finals on Sunday 21 August from 3.45pm.
