Safer City Camera Network Continues in CBD
Greater Shepparton City Council Safer City Camera Networks underground boring work started today.
The underground service locations began in early December 2013 and now the boring works will begin to be seen. Residents will start to notice work areas within Shepparton’s CBD over the coming months.
The underground boring will allow for the fibre optic cable and connection of all new cameras. The project includes the supply & installation of CCTV cameras, including the associated pits, conduits and laying of fibre optic cabling enabling connection of the system to the Shepparton Police Station.
The Safer City Camera Project is an initiative of the Safer City Strategy 2011-2014. The program is designed to reduce antisocial and criminal behaviour and improve public perceptions of safety in Shepparton’s CBD. Greater Shepparton City Council is working with Victoria Police to ensure compliance with all privacy and legal regulations are taken into account when the cameras are operational.
Funding for the Safer City Camera network has been provided by Greater Shepparton City Council, Department of Justice and the Attorney-General’s Department.
Mayor Jenny Houlihan said “Residents can now see work above ground in Shepparton’s CBD. This is great for our community to have another safety measure in place for community members and to help reduce antisocial behaviour.”
