FOUR thousand spectators are expected to witness Australia’s best speedway riders to go head to head for the nation’s top speedway prize as the Goulburn Valley Motorcycle Club hosts the third round of the 2017 Australian Speedway Solo Championship at Undera on Wednesday night, January 11.
Goulburn Valley MC secretary Alan Jones says his club has been busy preparing to welcome the nation’s top speedway riders for the all-important third round of a four-round Australian Speedway Solo Championship.
“Preparations are coming together very well. We’ve made sure the sprinklers have been turned on to make the grass greener and more comfortable for the spectators. We’re working on the track now to make it a good and safe racing surface,” Alan said.
“We’re definitely looking forward to it. It’s the highlight of our program. The crowd have been chomping at the bit to see this sort of spectacle. They don’t always get this sort of opportunity to see elite riders with one of the closest venue being in Melbourne for the FIM World SpeedwayGP,” he said.
“Speedway is very popular around here, particularly with the mainstay crew. We try to educate those who aren’t speedway-orientated and if we can get a few more people on board that’ll be excellent for the sport itself,” Alan added.
Alan says the mid-week event will be the perfect opportunity for speedway fans, and non-speedway fans, to witness the best riders in the country: “Speedway in Australia is looking very good at the moment. We’ve got Max Fricke, who is the current World Under21 Speedway Solo champion, Sam Masters, and Jordan Steward from Mildura,” Alan said. “It’s going to be hard to pick anyone on the day. In speedway; any day and any track is a little bit different. You’ve just got to get your act together and do the best you can,” he added.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Dinny Adem welcomed all participants and spectators to Greater Shepparton. “It is fantastic to see the great work being done by the Goulburn Valley Motorcycle Club and I wish them all the best for a successful event,” Mayor Adem said.
“I hope there’s excellent weather for the event,” Alan continued. “I hope the crowd come along and appreciate the good sport. We’re a volunteer-based club so a lot of people have given up there time to prepare for the event. They love the sport and that’s why they do it,” Alan said.
Round 3 of the 2017 Australian Speedway Solo Championship takes place at the Goulburn Valley Motorcycle Club at Undera Park on Echuca Road, Undera, on January 11 from 5.30pm.
