The Street Rider Night Bus Program is seeking new sponsors to come on board to ensure the future of this important community program.
Street Rider offers a unique late night bus service which operates with a security guard on board to ensure a safe journey by passengers. Having recently lost a long term security sponsor the service is now putting the call out to local businesses and organisations who might be interested in supporting the service by assisting with covering the cost of the security guard.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Jenny Houlihan said the Street Rider program had been operating for more than five years and offered an important service in the community.
“Many young people use Street Rider every weekend to get home after a night out. The program offers a safe alternative and peace of mind for people to get home safely,” Cr Houlihan said.
Richard Wadeson, owner of one of Shepparton’s late night venues, the Bullion Bar is happy to support the Street Rider Program.
“Bullion Bar has been a proud supporter of the Street Rider Night Bus for around five years. We help to keep Street Rider running by paying for the security guard who rides on the bus along with some other sponsors. Street Rider offers such a great, safe and inexpensive bus service that we are happy to be involved and help keep it operating.”
A get together will be held on Monday 28 July between 7pm and 8pm for those currently involved the Street Rider program, as a driver, sponsor or security provider and anyone interested in sponsoring the program are also invited to attend.
Street Rider operates between 1am and 5am on Sunday mornings, picking up from out the front of Harris Scarfe in Wyndham Street (servicing the Bullion Bar and The Vic Hotel), Yahoo Bar in High Street, Goulburn Valley Hotel Gaming Room Entrance in North Street and the Aussie Hotel in Maude Street, Shepparton. The bus drops off in Shepparton, Kialla and Mooroopna.
