Greater Shepparton City Council has appointed Mawson Construction the successful tenderer for the construction of netball courts and lighting for the next stage of the Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct project.
The netball court redevelopment involves construction of 10 new netball courts with lighting to provide Netball Victoria standard netball courts for participants. This will enable the Shepparton Netball Association to better utilise all 10 courts.
The netball court redevelopment will cost $1.39 million funded by Greater Shepparton City Council, the Shepparton Netball Association and the Federal Government. Work is due to commence in November 2015.
Greater Shepparton City Council has worked with the Shepparton Netball Association to also redevelop courts 9 and 10, with contributions from the Association of $90,000 for the two courts.
“During the construction of the new courts there will be a reduction in car parking spaces; however car parking is still available near the tennis courts and near the athletics facility. I am sure most people will understand the reduction of car parking during the construction is necessary to make way for new and revitalised netball courts that will last many more years,” said Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dennis Patterson.
“The overall Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct is a $19m redevelopment; this investment will establish it as a nationally significant sporting complex. The redevelopment will enhance our ability to secure and retain new major sporting events and national championships that might normally be held in capital cities or interstate. The 65 ha site is centrally located with facilities currently accommodating different sporting codes and recreational activities,” said Cr Patterson.
Works will include upgrading infrastructure for key sporting codes all located within the precinct.
