Shepparton will be visited by hundreds of budding young netballers as Netball Victoria’s largest competition takes place next weekend.
The State Titles competition will take place in Shepparton on 6 and 7 October 2018, and will be hosted at Shepparton Sports City.
Greater Shepparton Mayor, Kim O’Keeffe said “Securing the State netball titles is a great win for Greater Shepparton, with the competition being one of the biggest in the netball calendar and is expected to attract around 600 players, more than 200 officials and 500 plus spectators.”
“Last year’s event held in Werribee attracted over 600 players, so I am sure the competition for next weekend will be fierce. Locking in this event continues our tradition of hosting high profile netball events in partnership with Netball Victoria, including Netball Victoria Beach Competition in February this year at our temporary beach at the Victoria Park Lake created for the FIVB International Beach Volleyball World Tour and the 2016 Melbourne Vixens v Adelaide Thunderbirds preseason game.”
“This event is a key legacy from the great work in redeveloping the Regional Netball Complex as part of our multi-million dollar investment into Shepparton Sports City, and major netball events like these, help build our reputation as the sporting capital of regional Victoria”.
“Council strives to attract the biggest and best events to Greater Shepparton boosting employment, tourism, entertainment and liveability for our community. Our teams are working hard creating jobs, keeping business busy and the economy strong and this event will be a great showcase of this with around $1 million expected to be injected into Greater Shepparton,” said Cr O’Keeffe.
Netball Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Rosie King said Netball Victoria is thrilled to have Shepparton host the 2019 State Titles.
“We’re very much looking forward to holding this year’s State Titles at Shepparton Sports City, the sporting hub of Greater Shepparton,” said King.
“The State Titles is an important step in our high-performance pathway, with talent identification opportunities for players, coaches and officials, and this year, we’re thrilled to be piloting a 15 and Under mixed division.
“Many regional netballers, who have successfully progressed to state and national representation, have been identified through State Titles.
“We take great pride in our pathways, with more Victorians participating at a national level than any other state, and bringing competitions like this to our regional areas is really valuable for Netball Victoria to ensure we’re seeing the talent that’s out there in our netball communities.”
