Commencing Thursday, Stevens Crescent Park in Mooroopna will see new recreation facilities being installed, identified by local residents as a need due to the lack of play equipment currently available at the park.
The Mooroopna Community Plan Committee together with Greater Shepparton City Council have worked with local residents to drive the project, seeing a stand-alone shelter, basketball court and ring, picnic table, benches, additional trees and nature play elements to be installed, together with timber poles and rock boulders for climbing and playing.
Greater Shepparton City Council Manager Neighbourhoods Amanda Tingay is excited for the local community to soon be able to enjoy the new play facilities.
“Council would like to thank the Committee and local community who have been very proactive in supporting this project, through hosting regular community events in the park and local fundraising, bringing this project to fruition.
“Construction of the area will commence soon, so I would like to remind residents to be cautious of the construction works and note that some use of the park will be impacted by the works during this time,” said Ms Tingay.
“The Mooroopna Community Plan Committee is so excited to see this project progress. This project is a great example of community action. The Mooroopna community approached the committee with an identified need, and together, with all of these community partners, we have achieved a great asset for the children of our town,” said Mooroopna Community Plan Committee Member Nicole Reidy.
The project is supported by 14 funding partners, including:
The installation of the basketball court will commence from 1 March, with the project due to be completed in May. Sections of the park won’t be accessible during the installation.
