The Greater Shepparton Early Years Language workgroup is excited to again be running the annual story writing competition for Grade 5 and 6 students across Greater Shepparton, for inclusion in this year’s Book Bag program.
Students attending a Primary School in Greater Shepparton are invited to write and illustrate an original story, with the winning story being included in the three and a half year old book bag for 12 months. The bag and story book will be handed out to nearly 1,000 families across Greater Shepparton when they attend the three and a half year old Maternal and Child Health visit.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem said this is a great opportunity for our local children to get creative, involved and contribute to a local program.
“The Book Bag program aims to encourage parents and carers to read to their children right from birth and to understand the importance of early reading and language development. Included in the bag is a parent information booklet and library information amongst other reading and activity resources.
“The competition adds a local touch to the program and highlights the creative talent we have here in our region. I hope to see many schools participate and submit their students’ pieces of work,” said Cr Adem.
Primary Schools can submit up to three original illustrated stories from Grade 5 and 6 students to be considered by the judging panel. The competition closes at 3pm Monday 11 September 2017.
Information has been sent out to all Primary Schools in Greater Shepparton, but if you would like further information please contact Best Start Coordinator, Belinda Whitelaw on 03) 5832 9700.
