Strong turnout and community interest at GV Home Energy Expo

More than 270 people attended the GV Home Energy Expo on Sunday 14 June at the McIntosh Centre, Shepparton Showgrounds, highlighting strong community interest in reducing energy costs and transitioning to smarter, more efficient options.

Presented by Greater Shepparton City Council, the free event brought together 16 exhibitors and 6 expert speakers, providing practical advice on energy efficiency, electrification, solar, batteries and electric vehicles.

Attendees engaged with a diverse range of local and state-wide experts through presentations and an engaging speaking panel, with many taking the opportunity to ask questions, compare options and speak directly with trusted providers.

Council’s Director of Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said the strong turnout highlighted the importance of providing clear information on energy issues.

“The level of engagement on the day showed that households and businesses are eager for practical, easy-to-understand advice they can use to lower their energy bills,” she said.

“The expo created a single place where people could hear from experts, explore solutions and feel more confident about making changes.”

Attendees also explored electric vehicles, solar and battery systems, energy‑efficient appliances and retrofit solutions, with food vendors helping create a relaxed, family‑friendly atmosphere.

Council’s Manager Environment, Sharon Terry, said exhibitors and speakers reported positive conversations throughout the day.

“With 16 exhibitors on site and a well-attended speaker program, attendees were able to compare technologies, understand rebates and walk away with clear next steps,” she said.

“The panel discussions and presentations helped cut through complexity and answered many of the common questions people have about home energy efficiency, electrification and renewable energy.”

The event featured guest speaker, Geoff Lodge, who presented Cut Your Bills First: The Home Retrofit & Electrification Roadmap, sharing practical insights on improving energy efficiency and reducing household costs.

“The GV Home Energy Expo is a great example of Council creating a forum for the community to come together, connect and have meaningful conversations with a wide range of stallholders from the business sector and community groups, to learn about practical products and solutions that support the transition to electrification and greater energy efficiency,” he said.

Council would like to thank all exhibitors, speakers and community members who contributed to the success of the event and helped make the expo a valuable learning experience for the region.
