Greater Shepparton City Council has funded two students to attend the UN Youth Conference in Melbourne over the long weekend. A total of four students will be attending from Greater Shepparton.
The UN Youth Conference brings together Victoria's brightest and most engaged young people.
Attracting student leaders from across Victoria, our "Be the Change" Conference is the most prestigious youth conference in the state. Open to all students in years 10-12, it features workshops, leadership and advocacy training, guest speakers and Model United Nations debates.
The conference, seeks to expose students to issues, ideas and perspectives that they may not have considered before, in a non-biased and educational setting.
Inspired by the Mahatma Gandhi quote, "be the change you wish to see in the world", Victorian Conference 2014 encourages students to become engaged in international development, and active in their own communities.
At the end of 2014, the UN Millennium Development Goals will come to an end. Now, more than ever, it's important that the new generation of leaders consider what they want developmental progress to look like into the future.
Mayor Jenny Houlihan said "this is a great experience for young people to experience and build their knowledge to make a difference in the local community while also meeting other young people within Victoria who share similar values."
