Council are extremely disappointed with the action of a driver who has ignored all safety precautions and chosen to crash through the work site barriers at the Toolamba Bridge this afternoon sometime between 12.30 and 2.00pm.
The offending driver has also caused significant damage to adjacent private property including fencing and associated infrastructure.
At present the bridge is a worksite and none of the decking material is secured so to cross the bridge when it is in this condition is not only putting the bridge at risk but our workers, our contractors, not to mention the driver and/or passengers of the offending vehicle. There is the potential that the action of this driver may delay the completion of the repairs to the bridge.
Councils Director of Infrastructure, Steve Bowmaker, reminds the public that work is still ongoing at the site and we will advise the community of the opening as soon as we can reliably estimate.
Council have notified Shepparton Police who will conduct investigations. If any members of the public have any information about this incident or have any information about other unauthorised use of the bridge please contact the Shepparton Police on 5820 5777.
