Greater Shepparton City Council will begin the first stage of the Verney Road upgrade between Ford Road and Hawkins Street. The works will begin on Monday 1 December 2014 and are due to be completed by Friday 31 March 2015.
Stage 1 works will include road closures to traffic from 7am – 6pm daily. Verney Road will re-open to traffic over the Christmas period between Tuesday, 23 December 2014 and Monday 5 January, 2015, then works will resume.
The second and third stages are currently being designed and funding will need to be sought in the next few years to complete stages two and three.
Stage one of the Verney Road works will be undertaken by Mawson Construction Pty Ltd and will include new underground drainage to construct new storm water drainage along the road centre line, road pavement construction, Hotmix asphalt, concrete works, line-marking and furniture.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director of Infrastructure, Steve Bowmaker, said “This is an important road upgrade for the community; we have decided to upgrade the road in three stages to allow schools and residents better access, rather than works being completed in one stage and causing access and traffic delays”.
“We are currently working with community members affected by stage one of the road closure which is expected to take four months; however delays to the works may occur if we experience inclement weather, such as heavy rain”.
“Once completed the upgraded road will provide a safer and more comfortable trip for road users and will have improved drainage,” said Mr Bowmaker.
