Greater Shepparton will host a visit from The Governor of Victoria The Hon. Alex Chernov AC QC & Mrs Chernov on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 September.
The tour will include visits to St Georges Road Shopping precinct, Wilmot Road Primary School, Shepparton Art Museum, “The Flats”, Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative, Radevski Coolstores and Orchards, Gallery Kaiela and Tallis Winery.
The Governor will also attend functions as patron of the Australian National Piano Awards and receive presentations from local youth service providers.
Greater Shepparton Mayor Jenny Houlihan said this was an important event for Greater Shepparton.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase all the different aspects of Greater Shepparton, from our multicultural community to our food bowl and the arts,” Cr Houlihan said.
“I would like to thank all the organisations who have come together to make this tour possible.”
The Governor of Victoria is appointed by the Queen, on the advice of the Premier, to act as her representative as Head of State in Victoria. Since the Australia Acts of 1986, it is the Governor, and not the Queen, who exercises all the powers of the Head of State, and he or she is not subject to the direction or supervision of the Monarch. Upon appointment, he becomes a Viceroy. The Governor's main responsibilities fall into three categories; constitutional, ceremonial and community engagement.
