Greater Shepparton City Council’s Word and Mouth, partnering with Victoria Police, has again headed out to speak with and educate young people at schools to warn them of the dangers of the online interactions and social media.
“This project is an important investment into the future of our young people locally,” said Project Manager at Word and Mouth, Jim Gow. “This is our second year of educating our young people around the dangers of the internet. We continue to engage young people in schools, and have great relationships with all the local schools and alternative education settings.”
In the two years that
bothWord and Mouth and Victoria Police have partnered for these school tours, Mr Gow has spoken to in excess of 1,000 young people. “We have spoken to people in Greater Shepparton of all ages. This is an issue that is certainly not exclusive to one age cohort, and Year 7 issues with technology are very different to the Year 10 issues with technology.”Topics include online gaming, sexting, online interactivity, social media and more.
Starting a fortnight ago and concluding in a fortnight, both Word and Mouth and Victoria Police will visit several education settings to spread the word about this issue.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s youth organisation, Word and Mouth are also known for the events they put on for the young people of Greater Shepparton, including NerdMania, Battle of the Bands and DeadzTown.
