Word and Mouth Event – Battle of the Bands - 2018

Word and Mouth is proud to announce the FReeZA Push Heat will again go ahead this year on Friday 24 August from 6-11pm, in the McIntosh Centre at the Shepparton Showgrounds.

The event is aimed at people between the ages of 12-25, but anyone is welcome to come along and watch Shepparton’s young and talented musicians on display.

“This event is fantastic for the people of Shepparton due to the high interest they have in music,” said Project Manager at Word and Mouth, Jim Gow. “We continue to engage young people by putting on a range of events in Greater Shepparton. Nearly weekly we hear that there is nothing to do in the area for our youth and we are constantly looking to change that.”

This event has a strong history, and provides a great opportunity for the musicians competing to advance to a Regional Final. Ultimately winners could play at the Push Over 2019 all-ages music festival, held on the long weekend in March in Melbourne. Word and Mouth have this year paired up with local music event producers JL Productions, and hope to make it even bigger than last year. They are expecting more than 200 young people to attend this year, with the event changing to incorporate and include a wider range of musicians, and not just bands.

“Soloists, duos and trios are all welcome to compete. The winners will have a range of opportunities open up for them, including other local live performance opportunities in the next 6-12 months,” said Jamie Lea, of JL Productions.

Behind each event sits a committee of 22 people, aged 12-25, who are keen and dedicated to providing activities for our regional youth. ”Each activity is driven by that committee,” Mr Gow said, “They meet weekly to work out what the young people of Greater Shepparton need and want, giving their time voluntarily. This event has been in high demand since the same time last year. Music events are always very popular.”

This is a FreeZa assisted event.  FReeZA is a Victorian Government program that supports young Victorians to get involved in community life by planning and running drug, smoke and alcohol-free music and cultural events for other young people.

Entry on the night is $5 for the five hours of entertainment, and all Word and Mouth events are fully supervised, and are drug, smoke and alcohol free events. No passouts are available on the night.
