Greater Shepparton City Council’s Word and Mouth are looking for new members to join its youth committee. Applications are now open until Monday 3 December at 9am.
Word and Mouth is a blend of leadership, events management, positive change, volunteering and teamwork.
We are looking for young people who are keen to improve Greater Shepparton to be enjoyed by young people in the region.
Anyone aged 12-25 who want to make positive changes and represent the young people of Greater Shepparton are encouraged to sign up.
Members only need to volunteer their time once a week, usually for two hours. During a calendar year, young people have the potential to gain an enormous amount of experience across a broad range of duties which will contribute to the community.
One of Word and Mouth's biggest contributions is organising up to eight local events each year including, musical, recreational, and artistic and various other events to engage and benefit young people in the region.
Project Officer at Word and Mouth Jim Gow said this was the perfect opportunity for young people to be the change they wanted to see around town.
“This can appeal to young people who are still in high school, having a gap year, working or studying locally to engage with Word and Mouth and help shape their communities, right up until they are 25-years-old,” Mr Gow said.
“Some people do some silly things simply out of boredom, simply out of having nothing to do; we try to provide age appropriate opportunities for youth to engage with to fill this gap.”
Now is the chance to join the people who are trying to shape the youth culture in the region.
Further information can be found on Word and Mouth’s Facebook page.
