Grants have now been awarded to the six successful applicants of the Greater Shepparton Heritage Grants Program 2017. Successful projects are to be completed in the 2017/2018 financial year, with some works already underway.
The grants were made available to owners of properties in the Heritage Overlay within Greater Shepparton to assist with the conservation of heritage places for future generations to appreciate.
Greater Shepparton City Council, in association with the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee, launched the Heritage Grants Program 2017 for the first time in the 2017/2018 financial year. The Program sought to promote conservation works that improve the physical security or appearance of a place, whilst being respectful of the place’s significance.
This the first time such a Program has been undertaken independently by a council in regional Victoria.
At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 19 December 2017, Council resolved to award grants to six successful applications for works to residential properties, churches and memorial halls in Shepparton, Merrigum, Moorilim and Tatura.
Over 30 applications were received in total and, due to the high calibre of all applications, Council also noted an additional three applications as “highly commended” to Shepparton and Toolamba.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said she was pleased to see so many applications submitted for Heritage Grants. “We look forward to seeing the completion of conservation works supported by the Heritage Grants Program later this year,” she said.
“Council was impressed with both the quantity and the standard of applications received, and congratulates all grant applicants on the preparation of highly quality applications.”
If you have any queries regarding the Heritage Grants Program please contact Council’s Building and Planning Department on 03 5832 9730.
