Greater Shepparton City Council will endeavour to increase the safety of one of the town’s busiest intersections by installing traffic lights at the intersection of Wyndham Street, MacIntosh Street, Hassett Street, Fitzjohn Street and the railway line.
Regional Roads Victoria, in partnership with Greater Shepparton City Council identified the need for signalisation at this intersection and Council has commenced the design process.
As well as providing additional safe crossing points for pedestrians along the Victoria Park Lake frontage, the traffic lights will improve traffic flow and turning movements.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Phil Hoare said Council was pleased to award the contract for the design of the intersection upgrade to local consulting firm CAF Consulting.
“The design will take into consideration the existing intersections of Wyndham Street, MacIntosh Street, Hassett Street and Fitzjohn Street and cater for the existing railway line crossing, the Caravan Park and the new Shepparton Art Museum entrances,” Mr Hoare said.
“The design has commenced and we anticipate it will be completed by December this year, Council will soon have a draft design of the intersection for public inspection and feedback.
“It is anticipated that the upgrade works will commence next financial year however that is subject to agreement on funding.”
