Greater Shepparton City Council awarded the contract for drainage construction in Drummond Road, Shepparton to Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd, at its August Council Meeting on Tuesday.
In Summary
The contract, for $1.2 million, will see 630 metres of stormwater pipes, box culverts and drainage pits constructed along Drummond Road this financial year. This project will improve stormwater drainage in and around the area, from Joseph Baldwin Place to New Dookie Road and 200m frontage along New Dookie Road from Drummond Road.
The contract will also include the re-instatement of pavement, kerb and channel, splitter islands and vehicle crossings, clearing and grubbing of existing pavement, protection and adjustment of existing services.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, highlighted the importance of this contract, with even small rain events causing flooding in and around the Drummond Road area for many years.
“We have done our best to address some drainage issues that have been raised with us and we thank the community for informing us. Council have brought this to the table and we commend the Infrastructure team for getting this underway,” Cr Sali said.
“The reality is that Drummond Road drainage has been a major issue for many years, we have the same outcome every time it rains, flooding with no drainage. I am glad Council has resolved this longstanding issue.”
