Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise that the Drummond Road Drainage Upgrade Project is now complete, with the works greatly improving stormwater drainage for the area.
In Summary
The works included installation of 630 metres of stormwater pipes, pits, concrete kerbing and traffic island construction, along with resurfacing and line marking sections of the road. The $1.2 million contract for these works was delivered by local contractor Mawson Constructions Pty Ltd and was fully funded by the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program.
The area was identified for improvement as part of Council's 2020 Drainage Strategy, with a focus on addressing stormwater issues that have affected the community and creating a plan to prevent future flooding at the key intersection of Drummond and New Dookie Roads.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, acknowledged the previous drainage issues in the area, with even small rain events causing flooding in and around Drummond Road.
“The completed works greatly improve these drainage problems, ensuring water will drain quickly and efficiently following rain events, along with minimising localised flooding during major rainfall,” he said.
“We thank the businesses in and around Drummond Road for their cooperation and understanding while these important works were undertaken. While we acknowledge there was disruption in the area during this time, the finished works will bring great relief to businesses in the area.
“It is fantastic to see this longstanding issue resolved.”
