Shepparton will come alive these school holidays with the inaugural Shepparton Winter Fun Zone taking over the Maude Street Mall from 27 June to 14 July.
Greater Shepparton City Council in partnership with Shepparton Show Me, The Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Nando’s Shepparton are excited to reveal the program of activities for residents and visitors to enjoy the all new winter holiday event, the Shepparton Winter Fun Zone.
Experience the magic of ice skating in the heart of the Maude St Mall, tickets are now available to purchase online with children’s tickets selling for $6.50 and adults $12.00. The program will also include a range of fun, free activities for children of all ages to enjoy.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said the Winter Fun Zone would bring the very best of winter to Shepparton.
“Greater Shepparton is well known for our cultural events, sporting facilities and flourishing agricultural industry, bringing the Winter Fun Zone to town will bring a new family winter experience for residents and visitors to enjoy,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“Those unable to make it to the snow fields this winter will still be able to lace up their skates and take to the ice and we encourage them to explore all Greater Shepparton has to offer in retail, hospitality and many other experiences around the region.”
The Winter Fun Zone will also include a range of supporting free activities for the whole family to enjoy such as face painting, inflatable slides, winter themed games, creative workshops from the Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) and mini golf.
Shepparton Show Me Chair Shane Sali said the Winter Fun Zone program had something for everyone to enjoy.
“The ice rink will be available for everyone to try for the entire activation so you can bring your friends and family as many times as you wish and learn a new skill over the school holidays,” Mr Sali said.
“Everyone can come and enjoy the Winter Fun Zone, there’s a range of activities for all ages and skills, parents with younger kids can enjoy the inflatables and arts, crafts and games while older children can challenge themselves on the ice rink or a game of mini golf.”
Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry board CBD committee member Wendy Crow said the affordable and free activities will give visitors to the Maude St Mall the chance to experience other aspects of the region.
“The Shepparton Winter Fun Zone is a CBD activation aimed at supporting all businesses, the range of affordable and free programs is to allow families to enjoy a range of school holiday activities and still be able to enjoy visiting the shops or dining out,” Ms Crow said.
“We’re anticipating up to 10,000 people to visit the Shepparton Winter Fun Zone and expecting around 30 per cent of those to have travelled from outside of the region, so we want them to be able to experience all of the many great things Shepparton has to offer.”
Owner and Franchisee of Nando’s Shepparton Anthony Trapani said the Winter Fun Zone would be a specialty event not to miss.
“It’s not every day we can say there is an Ice Rink in the middle of Maude Street Mall, this is a really great initiative for the town,” Mr Tapani said.
“Winter will take over the Maude Street Mall and it is really an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed by locals and visitors.”
