Greater Shepparton City Council has noted the Katandra West and District Community Action Plan 2025–2028 at its July Council Meeting on Tuesday. The Plan outlines a shared community vision and practical steps to enhance the liveability, resilience and future growth of Katandra West and surrounding areas.
In Summary
Developed by the Katandra West and District Community Planning Group (CPG), the Plan was shaped through broad local consultation and builds on the community’s previous plan. It brings together ten key focus areas to guide development over the next three years, including infrastructure, accessibility, environmental sustainability, community events, and youth engagement.
The Katandra West and District CPG was first established in 2012 and has played an important role in fostering community leadership and delivering local projects.
With the support of Council, the group has delivered several significant outcomes in recent years, including new town entry signage, improved footpath connections between Lincoln and Black streets, shade sails at the recreation reserve playground, and enhancements to the primary school crossing. The installation of a defibrillator at the community centre and Aboriginal art projects have also contributed to improved safety and cultural visibility in the township.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, praised the dedication of the CPG and said the Plan was a testament to the town’s community spirit.
“This Plan is the result of passionate community members coming together to shape the future of the Katandra West area,” he said.
“It reflects their values, goals and strengths, and Council is proud to support such a proactive group. From infrastructure to culture, sport and sustainability, this Plan puts forward a clear and achievable roadmap.”
The 2025–2028 Plan was developed through extensive community consultation resulting in key themes being identified which will guide local priorities over the next three years.
These include improving infrastructure and services to enhance liveability, increasing walkability and accessibility, supporting sport and recreation, strengthening community connections, and planning for sustainable growth and emergency preparedness. The Plan also places importance on celebrating local heritage and culture, engaging young people, and enhancing the natural environment.
Councillor Geoff Akers, Pine Lodge Ward, commended the group’s community-focused approach.
“The CPG has taken great care to ensure that this Plan reflects the needs of the whole Katandra West and District community,” he said.
“Their achievements to date speak for themselves, and this Plan gives them the direction and momentum to keep delivering outcomes that matter to local people.”
Council will continue to support the implementation of the Plan through advocacy, project planning, partnership development and funding advice. The CPG will work alongside community groups, government agencies and local businesses to deliver on the identified actions.
