Greater Shepparton City Council will once again be distributing green compostable bags across the municipality throughout March 2025.
In Summary
Residents can expect to receive their next complimentary roll of compostable bags to be used in the kitchen caddy, delivered to all households with a green lid bin.
Since the rollout in 2016, residents have demonstrated a commitment to improving waste management including sorting and placing waste in the appropriate bin. With this support, Greater Shepparton City Council have achieved great results for diverting waste from landfill.
Council’s Director Infrastructure, Gary Randhawa, thanked the community for their role in helping reduce waste to landfill. With updates to bin collection schedules last year, proper waste disposal in the kerbside bin system remains a top priority for the region.
“The green compostable bags play a key role in supporting our composting efforts. By using these bags, we are improving soil health and reducing the amount of organic material going to landfill. It’s a win for both the environment and the community,” he said.
“The compostable bags provided by Council meet strict Australian standards and are specifically designed to break down during the composting process. We urge residents to only use these bags in their kitchen caddies and green lid bins to maintain low contamination levels and maximise the benefits of this service.”
Residents without a complimentary kitchen caddy can visit Greater Shepparton City Council at 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton, to request one from Customer Service.
If you don’t receive your complimentary roll of compostable bags by the end of February, please contact Council’s Customer Service team at (03) 5832 9700 or email council@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
