Greater Shepparton City Council in partnership with Australian BMX Museum and the Shepparton Motor Museum are thrilled to be the host location of an all new BMX exhibition.
Showing now at the Shepparton Motor Museum until the end of January, will be an impressive display of the history of BMX including world championship memorabilia, the Sam Willoughby Medal and honouring local sporting hero and ‘master’ of BMX Leigh Egan.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe welcomed the exhibition to our region.
“Shepparton is a regional sporting capital and it is an honour to be able to showcase a collection of world class memorabilia as well as highlighting some great attributes of our local BMX community,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“This is a great addition to hosting the BMX National Championships this month as well as next year’s UCI BMX Supercross World Cup which will see visitors from intrastate, interstate and overseas.”
“Hosting this unique exhibition will provide opportunities for our visitors to experience some great tourism attractions on their time away from the Shepparton BMX Track, further enhancing opportunities for local business to benefit from the influx of visitors”.
Shepparton Motor Museum Operations Manager Jenna Buzza said the exhibition complemented the museum and its many vehicles already on show.
“This exhibition is brilliant, it features the love of a life spent on a BMX, and is a great contrast to the museum and our Farren vintage bicycle collection,” Ms Buzza said.
Australian BMX Museum Manager Cameron Mitchell said the Australian BMX Museum was excited to present an exhibition at the Shepparton Motor Museum with support from the Greater Shepparton City Council.
“Shepparton has a rich history in the sport of BMX in Australia, producing some of the greatest BMX racers this country has seen. It is encouraging and exciting to see BMX being embraced and supported by the Shepparton community and we hope visitors from all over the world will enjoy our small slice of BMX history on display,” Mr Mitchell said.
The exhibition will also include display bikes, world championship trophies and BMX display merchandise.
In addition, the Art Bikes installation which will be in the central business district during the BMX National Championships will move to the Shepparton Motor Museum to be part of the Hall of Fame Exhibition after the competition. The Art Bikes collection will then be back on display throughout the community during the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup next year.
